Today’s post from team member Brianna Marshall offers up one of her secrets for creating great scrapbook pages you love.

If you are anything like me, you find inspiration is a wide variety of places. I always seem to find great inspiration in print and online magazines from cover to cover. There are also many amazing online sites which have great online galleries to browse. It can be easy to overwhelm yourself with inspiration, sometimes causing you to forget the most simple place for inspiration: yourself.

I have found as of late, that there comes a time when you fall into a pattern with your style choices used on projects. I have noticed upon review that I have a cohesive look to my pages; I stick to what I am drawn to and what feels best for me. I love that, even as my style evolves, I can still appreciate old layouts created.

Through this appreciation, I have found myself finding inspired by old ideas, wanting to make them new again on my scrapbook pages. Why not use what you love and pull inspiration from the very creations that brought you to your current style?

It is very simple to choose a layout that speaks to you and re-imagine it using new product. Should you prefer a less obvious option, you can look to your older work for great embellishments that you loved, which could be used again.

I love to create my own embellishments out of patterned paper. This would be simple enough to re-create and add to a new layout. And let us not forget our color schemes. Looking through old work, it is easy to fall in love with a color combo, and use it once again with new product.

I took the time to look through my personal gallery and found myself inspired by an older layout, that I had created in June of 2010. I wanted to use the large frame square and the basic element placement.

By flipping the layout and keeping the basic look, I came up with a new layout which showcases my evolved style. I love this idea, and plan to use this method more for inspiration at other times. I encourage you to do the same, and keep thinking of great ways to find inspiration, even in the most obvious of places.

Have you ever scraplifted yourself?

Such a great tip! I try extending my craft so much that sometimes I forget that I should look back to what I’m good at.

I look through my printed scrapbooks for inspiration often. I have recently used kits I’ve had since 2008 because I remembered how fun the kit was when I looked in my book and added a few elements that are popular now and had great results.
