Let’s meet Patty Debowski aka The Digital Scrapbook Teacher.
Patty was motivated to start her business while working on four different scrapbooks – one for each of her three children and a fourth for the family. She simply didn’t have the time to create scrapbook pages with traditional supplies. After mastering Photoshop Elements on her own, she wrote Digital & Hybrid Scrapbooking & Card-Making. In 2011, Patty wrote Photoshop Elements Basics & Beyond, which covers photo editing, organizing photos and digital scrapbooking supplies, and digital scrapbooking. She’s packed a lot of information into this “Bible of Digital Scrapbooking” after teaching hands-on classes at scrapbook conventions across the United States.
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher offers classes – online, downloadable, hands on – in addition to videos, the aforementioned book and digital scrapbooking products such as templates and kits. Patty teaches five different classes online at My Creative Classroom including one on Photo Organizing. As she says, “If you don’t have a good system for organizing your photos you will waste a lot of time.”
I asked Patty how her scrapbooking style and goals have changed over the years. Patty now uses templates to speed up the process and focuses on the photos and journaling more than she did when she was a paper scrapbooker. In addition, she includes more journaling on her pages because she wants to remember the stories behind the photos. Many years ago Patty took a class at a scrapbook convention at which the teacher said something that has stayed with her – if you only include photos on the page, you are saying that it only mattered how you looked in the photos, not how you felt.
