Around Here | February 2014

On the last day of each month I’m sharing a personal recap that will also be included in my Project Life album.

2014-02-17 11.07.54-2

Around here I am totally over all this polar vortex nonsense (see ice-coated window above) and am questioning why I ever left California. I always though the winters here were super wimpy and now I am eating my words. My Birkenstocks and I are so over it.

Around here I am getting a bit of cabin fever and starting to dig out of winter’s clutter. I’m puttering around more, slowly getting things put away and starting to plan for bigger projects. First on the list is a big craft closet purge during our members-only stash bash!

Around here I am realizing my scrapbook stash is growing a little too fast and I’m considering the best steps to take. Part of me wants to go on a multi-month period of no spending, but I will admit I fear missing out on something cool.

Around here my little girl is dressing up like a ballet butterfly princess almost daily, complete with tutu, wings, and tiara. But she doesn’t call herself a princess, she says “I am superhero!” Hear that gives me confidence that I am raising her right.

Around here I made a little checklist on a piece of paper for drinking more water. I don’t need an app; I just need to keep it simple and try to put more good things in my body as it comes out of deep hibernation mode.

Around here I am still feeling a bit overwhelmed and not-so-spacious. I think this is a common feeling in February and I’m trying to just go with it. I feel like I can count a victory this month of being more present and engaged with my family.

Around here I am celebrating that Steve and I have checked off two dates so far and already have a day outing planned for March. I’m trying hard to remember that we can’t wait until we’re not busy to spend quality time together.

How did February treat you? I’d love it if you shared one highlight, challenge, or realization in the comments.

I came to the realization this month that I absolutely cannot keep up with a 365-project and gave up for good! And I’m so much happier now! And I re-worked my blog and have a newfound direction for it. Love reading your posts!

Thanks Ashley, so glad to hear of your realization. We can certainly value everyday photography without adding specific pressures that may not work.

I love reading these personal tidbits of other people’s lives. February was a bit of a blur for me. The month seemed to have been taken up by Valentine’s Day and my nieces wedding, so I’m hoping March is a little more productive for me. I think I did a lot of reflecting this month on how I want my life/time to look.

I started to do Project Life in January for the first time, and I have really dropped the ball. I completed through week 4, and then…nothing. I don’t remember much of what happened up until now! And I realized one of my HUGE downfalls is that I forget to take pictures! Not a good thing for a “memory keeper”. And then I realized I wasn’t too crazy about the way I was creating my pages. I thought about just calling it quits, because that’s what I normally do, but upon further thought, I think I will just try picking it back up this week. I’ll either try to fill in those gaps, or if I can’t come up with too much info on what was happening then, I will just put a page in saying that. I found I really enjoy documenting the little tidbits of my life. 🙂

One thing I did well this month was working out and eating a little better. I’m only down 3 pounds, but the whole point was to get healthy and feel better and gradually make changes. I would say I have been successful this month with that goal.

I’m just wishing February was a little longer! It seems like the year just started, but already we’re two whole months in!
I’m feeling pretty proud of myself though. I managed to 100% finish last year’s project life, and so far have managed to stay on top of this year’s as well! But I feel you on the polar vortex and winter. I am so done with this junk.

Polar Vortex!!! I thought it was only going to that one time (the first time) and we are still dealing with it!! Another late start for school because of the wind chills, but at least they are getting the day in rather than cancelling it altogether.

I am celebrating my accomplishment of nearly completing a MAJOR purge of my stash. I’ve taken many, many tote bags of my stash to a consignment shop and today will donate a big bagful to a friend who does daycare. Still sorting through pictures and the few traditional projects that I will continue with. Everything else is going to be digital!

It was during a ‘Focus’ chat that I finally reached the moment of “I’m gonna do it” I did it! And I feel great about finally being able to see my table and feel the organization back.

Thanks to all who encouraged me and you, Jennifer, for FOCUS!

Just one thing got me through February…my new HAPPY LITE…without that I think I would have just dug a hole in the basement floor and stay there until the temperature was at least 70 degrees and full day sunshine to boot! Snow, ice, frigid air…bahhh..I’m with you Jennifer…time to go to California!!! (i am in May, YEA!)..

Oops! I think it was ‘Start Fresh’ that really got me thinking about my major purge! However, Focus had something to do with it too.

Regardless, Thanks, Jennifer for all the guidance!

The one, the only good thing about this awful polar vortex (which should actually be in the same category as curse words and, hence, not allowed on the printed page) is the wonderful opportunity to get scrapbooking done. I have no desire to go out and play in this bitter cold, snowy mess so I craft. Yippee. The only think to keep me sane this winter. I so need a warm climate.
