About the blogger

Much of my reasoning for launching Simple Scrapper was layed out in the first post. As my interest in this hobby grew, I quickly realized my mostly-food blog was no place for digital scrapbooking. Most importantly, I wanted to offer a go-to resource with simple tips and clean design that would appeal to budding digiscrappers like myself. I am sure you’re wondering, well who are you?

I am Jennifer W., a born-again crafter living in the heart of the midwest. I grew up with colored pencils, mod podge and an ancient sewing machine. I also love learning how to be frugal and live a simple, productive life. When I started exploring the digiscrap community, I found it difficult to find just what I wanted in a neat little package. Being a true Capricorn and an artist, I decided to create it myself.

My goal is to cull the internet for the best this community can offer, so you don’t have to. Simple Scrapper will always offer essential nuggets of wisdom that you can trust. If you like what we’re offering, don’t forget to subscribe to the feed!

What is digital scrapbooking?

Why go digital?
Scrapbooking brings your memories alive and provides an outlet for creativity. The traditional paper-based hobby can also require substantial storage space and a bank account to match. While there are many tips and tricks for frugal scrapping, going digital is a simple solution. To top it all off, the digital route can offer so much more design flexibility than your scissors and glue and eliminates all those imperfect handwriting worries. While digital scrapbooking is for anyone, type A perfectionists will find it particularly appealing!

Ready to know more?
Digital scrapbooking takes all of the paper scrapbooking essentials – papers, journaling, embellishments (ribbons, flowers, eyelets, brads, staples) – and brings them to your computer. Each item you would place on a page comes as an individual computer file (usually a .jpg or a .png). Then, you use design software to combine selected elements with favorite photos. In future posts, we’ll detail the pros, cons (and most importantly the price point) of the digiscrap software options. Don’t worry – you can get started for free!

Why scrapbook?

It’s pretty tempting and all-too-easy to place prints in a simple sleeve album or even easier to just leave them on your computer in a digital slide show. But there is something different about scrapbooks. They are a tangible way to honor your photos and record those special memories.

With a scrapbook you can pick out the best photos, the ones you will want to look at again and again. Then you choose all the elements that will complement the photo, making it stand out and perhaps enhancing the meaning or message. The whole creative process, from selecting a photo to finishing a page, can be a therapeutic emotional journey. You are simultaneously putting the past to rest while cherishing the best moments.

There are many reasons people start scrapbooking. I love expressing my creativity while advancing my own goal of an organized photo record. Others focus on the archival process of preserving family photos. The Scrapper’s Guide asked this same question: Why do you scrapbook? Their community has shared page after page of their own journey to this hobby. What brings you here?

Welcome to Simple Scrapper

“Simple Scrapper is your easy-on/easy-off rest stop from life’s pleasant chaos.”

Can you believe it’s almost Thanksgiving? Time sure flies when you’re busy with kids, work and all the fun that is life. You’ve captured as many priceless moments as you can, but are overwhelmed at all the options. You want a creative outlet, but need to squeeze it in between dinner and soccer practice… or even after everyone is in bed! I bet you’re like me – you caress the beautiful scrapbooking papers at craft stores and fondle cute embellishments, but wonder where you would store it all and how you would get started. How do you find balance?

I was in envy of my paper scrapbooking friends – busy moms (and single gals) who seemed to have time to cook, clean and crop-til-you-drop. That is, until I discovered digital scrapbooking. I instantly knew this was a great solution for honoring my memories while keeping my sanity. I could crop to my hearts content in my ‘digital craft room’, while watching the pot or catching up on Tivo – all with no mess to clean up!

Our Community
I started exploring this community of lovely and talented designers and scrappers, to a certain level of frustration. Like many niches on the internet, there is simply a lot to process. I found many sources for freebies, countless stores to purchase beautiful kits and a seemingly endless array of forums and galleries. I asked myself: how can a novice scrapper, especially one with little time, get in and out without getting lost in the fuss? While there are many great tutorial sites, especially focused on nuances of software, I could not find one blog with easy-peasy tips for new scrappers. I was looking for a Sew, Mama, Sew! of the digital scrapbooking world.

Simple Scrapper is your easy-on/easy-off rest stop from life’s pleasant chaos. This blog will help you fit digital scrapbooking into your super-charged life, with creative ideas, quick tips, simple layouts and guides to the designer community.
