Easy tip for tracking layout credits

by | Scrapbooking Ideas | 4 comments

This week there was a lot of discussion about crediting products/designers on digital scrapbook layouts. Whether you choose to credit often, sometimes or hardly ever, it’s nice to have a go-to strategy. More than a year ago, I posted 3 easy ways to keep track of your layout credits.

With today’s simple tip, I want to offer what I feel is a really great fourth method for any software that uses layers:

  • Create a new layer and place it on top of all the others.
  • Add a text box to this layer and click to make it invisible.
  • With every item added to your layout, “turn on” the layer to add the credit.
  • Copy and paste the text whenever you choose to post a layout.

I like this approach because 1) it allows you to stay in your scrapping program and 2) makes it easier to find your full credits again.

Your turn! Share something from your life this week. Link us up to a favorite blog post or tweet (from you or someone else) using the Mister Linky box below. (Subscribers will need to click over to the site to participate!)

When my layout is open in photoshop, I right click on the blue bar at the top, and select File Info. I then add all the credit info I need, and can then copy/paste it into my galleries when I upload. The info stays there whether the layout is in PSD, PNG or JPEG format. Love that.

I’m with you Jacinda. I use File Info because I don’t want to have to save, or find, or even have to open the .psd file. When you’ve got over 50 layers they can take quite some time to open!! This way the credits are already in my screen-sized .jpg. You can even view this data in Windows Explorer by right clicking on the file and choosing properties, so you don’t even have to open the file in PS or PSE.

Ooooh.. you can see it in the properties? That’s really a holy grail technique then I think. I shall have to test this.
