While recently tidying up my creative space, I managed to find my ‘Scrapbook Your Way Workbook’ that I’d received at our in-person retreat in Illinois. If I look further back in my files, I’m certain I’d find an even older version, but that one (planning for the final month of 2018 and all of 2019) is the only one I have that’s been properly bound into a ‘notebook’. I eagerly await Simple Scrapper’s Planning Party every year. While back to school’s stationery accumulation was once the primary season to set my heart aflutter and ablaze, Simple Scrapper’s Planning Party has now become my overall favourite time of the year (cue Andy William’s version of ‘It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year’!).

This is my very first time at the Planning Party. I was an avid productive scrapbooker for decades, when my children (now 26 and 29) were young . I just seemed to have a “flow” to things. I lived and experienced, I printed photos, and I got it all “in the book”. Now, as an empty nester who is also a caregiver for my disabled husband and a babysitter to my 3 year old grandson, I find myself setting aside storytelling and scrapbooking because I am “too busy”. I really want to change that. Scrapbooking and documenting was part of what made me so happy! I have dabbled in journaling, memory planning, etc. for the last couple of years, but I am too the point that I just need more direction about what might work best for ME. That is why I am here.

Welcome Stella! It sounds like you’re in the right place. You might use some of your brainstorming to think about a single, small project that would make you happy… leaning on your experiences about what worked well (and what didn’t) the past couple years. Sometimes you just need a clear point of focus to get the ball truly rolling.

I think I have tried to do the planning party more than once before. This past year I didn’t get to do any scrapbooking. I had plans but tending to others needs made it hard for me to do my projects. I’m a care giver for my Mom as well. I have so many that I want to do! I hope to get my thoughts out and focus on one at a time this next year.

I think I attended last year. I’ve been on/off due to illness, caregiving, an awful job and not a shred of time for myself.
I finally retired September 29th and haven’t done a thing scrapbook nor story telling etc. unfortunately. I had two good weeks then got really sick.
Still sick but I’m committed to doing this and just printed the Workbook to get started tomorrow. I can’t attend the program tonight because I’m at
Bell Choir practice at my church. I’m determined to get things moving in the right direction. I can’t wait to make and tell and all the things!

This is the first time I am attending this event.

I am a long-time scrapbooker and always felt pretty good about my projects. I completed several albums and was excited to leave my books to my two children one day, so they could remember all the wonderful things we did together as a family. However, I lost my son to suicide in 2016 and my daughter has had a really hard time moving on with her life and says the scrapbooks make her sad. I am hoping to find motivation and reasons to start scrapbooking again, now that what I thought was my reason has gone. I’m struggling to figure out what to take note of on this unexpected path of my life. I just retired from 36 years of school-teaching, so I am hoping to make time and mental space for this activity that I used to love. I’m hoping this event will jump-start my creativity.

I’m so sorry for this enduring grief. I hear a sense of hope in your words and am so glad you are here. I want to offer permission to think about scrapbooking in new ways and consider projects that may not look anything like what you did before.
