A technical question for you

by | Announcements | 5 comments

I realize that load times for Simple Scrapper pages have slowed to a snail’s pace since I added the spiffy featured content box.  You may have even noticed a temporary site outage this afternoon. I’m sorry for the decreased performance.

I wanted to interrupt our normal content for a moment to get your feedback on that box. Are you clicking it or is it just pretty? Would you miss it or could you live without? Please take this quick poll and feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments.

I want to make sure readers have quick access to the best of Simple Scrapper and would love to hear your ideas. Thanks so much!

either way i will still visit. i mainly view the posts in my rss feeder so i don’t think that the box slows me down.

i have only clicked on that box twice and the other times i just use the categories and the menu across the top. Maybe instead of the box though you could have in its place a “top” visited articles links. Like the 5 most visited or 10 most popluar articles or such.

I read all of the posts from an RSS feed reader so it makes no difference to me if you have the box or not. 🙂

I also use an RSS reader and never visit the actual site (except just now to make this comment!) and didn’t know you even had a featured content box.

I love the look of the box enough that Stan and I explored using one ourselves. My feeling is that it is too large. If you could get it down to about 150×150 it might not be too bad, but I don’t think that widget is adjustable. That said, I think a listing of previous or featured posts would be adequate.

I usually read Simple Scrapper in Google Reader, so I don’t see the box. But if I want to make a comment, I click through to come to the site and it does think for some time before the page pulls up. It doesn’t bother me, it’s fine either way.
