How to get out of a funk

A received many wonderful questions earlier this week, but one stuck out, and I wanted to answer it right away.

How can I get back my mojo? It’s been gone for almost 2 yrs now. Ugh! I feel like I’m the only person with this problem. *sigh*

Short-term or long-term bouts of  “scrapper’s funk” can really throw you and your memory keeping for a loop. Photos pile up and the guilt builds. Fortunately, there are several strategies that can help ease that blah feeling or jolt you out if it completely!

Take more photos – When I take that one special shot, I just can’t wait to scrap it. Spend more time behind the lens to boost your incentive.

Buy something new – Fun new toys are a quick way to rev up the scrapping excitement.

Try a scraplift – Take an inspiring layout and put your own spin on it. Knowing that the end product will likely look great always helps!

Start a journal – Sometimes you feel like the stories just are there. Let the words come to you the old fashioned way – with pen and paper.

Use a template – If you’re not feeling creative, let someone’s else skills do the hard work for you.

Take a class – Learn new skills or brush up on ones you’ve mastered. Find classes with lots of interaction so you can feed on the group’s energy.

Re-do an oldie – Take a layout you created long ago and re-create it with your new, fantastic skills. Revel in how far you’ve come.

Be OK with it – You’re not a bad mom if you take a break from scrapping. Plop those photos in some page protectors and move on.

    Thanks for addressing my question! I’m going to give your suggestions a try. I think one other tip may be to TURN OFF THE INTERNET when you’re going to scrap. Goodness knows I get on the net for five minutes to check something before I try scrapping, and next thing I know it’s midnight. *sheesh!*

      That is certainly a great tip. I know I get sucked in checking this and that.

      Another one I didn’t include, would be to spend time one night assembling a page kit. Gather your photos, select a kit, alpha, font, any extras like stitching or word art. Pick a template too. Spend time thinking or actually writing our your journaling. Then, come back to it in 24 hours to do the layout. I did this once, and found I was so raring to go, knowing that a lot of the hard part was already done.

    These are great tips! I was in a funk for about two years. I think the break helped me re-focus. I was too caught up with trying to design like everyone else and it stiffled my own creativity. When I went back to basics and kept things simple, the scrapmojo came back.

    My favorite thing to do to get me out of a scrapping funk is to pull out my albums and look at my printed pages and I totally remember WHY I do it!

      I think you have a good point. I don’t actually have any albums, so I’ve only printed just a handful of layouts. I really want to follow the Library of Memories way of organizing them, but I can’t find any 8×8 three ring binders. Anyone have any sources?

        I’m wondering – how many people scrap in 12×12, but then print in 8×8?
