I‘m honored to have Jen Martakis, who designs for Two Peas in a Bucket, here this month as our Featured Template Designer! Here’s her story as well as her exclusive tips for keeping it simple!

How long have you been designing templates?
10 months What inspired you to start your business? Templates actually. I began digital scrapbooking about a year ago and have always loved creating and using sketches in my paper scrapbooking. So, creating digital templates was a natural step for me.

What do you love most about designing templates?
I love being able to provide a jump start to the creativity of others.

Do you have any time-saving tips you swear by?
Using templates! 😉 I find that I can scrap a page in such a short amount of time using them.

What is your most popular product?
My Journal Bundle. What about it do you think gives it a broad appeal? Text paths are such a fun way to journal. It’s also very convenient for those who have PSE and can’t create their own.Templates can be fabulous launch pads, allowing scrappers to build on a great foundation with their own creativity.

Can you share with us one of your favorite templates and examples of its use in a variety of styles?
My Simple Starts No. 11 is one of my all time favorite templates. I am a lover of white space.

What tips do you have for helping scrappers customize a template and give it their own creative spin?
There are so many ways to play with templates. You can rotate and re-size. You can take the papers and elements and rearrange them. You can even add and subtract the number of photos you use.

Simple Scrapper is all about making digital scrapbooking easier and more fun. What are you best tips for keeping it simple?
Sometimes as scrapbookers we start to focus on the beauty of our layout instead of telling the story. It doesn’t always have to be the perfect layout. It doesn’t always have to use the latest and greatest kits. We need to keep our focus on telling the stories behind our photos. That’s why most of us started scrapbooking. 🙂
