Create Simple Scrapbook Layouts Without Embellishments

Scrapbooking Ideas

This is a guest post from team member Mandy Ross, who challenged the team to an impossible task: scrapbooking without embellishments.

I asked our team to take a literal translation of being a simple scrapper. They each used a template from the premium membership, but could only rely on papers, fonts, title work and journaling to complete their layouts.

I know what you’re thinking, “Impossible!”, but is it? Let’s take a look at what they came up with.

Celeste Smith used a variety of patterned papers and creatively cut shapes to make her page shine.

Supplies

Krista Wells punched a fun star out of paper to add a little something extra to her fabulous page.

Supplies

Jennie McGarvey kept her page from looking too “flat” by layering up strips of paper.

Supplies

Margrethe Aas Johnsen cut a map paper into whimsical shapes to continue on the travel theme found in her layout.

Supplies

Ronnie Crowley used bold strips of paper on her page.

Aimee Maddern created this stunning work of art using a rainbow of bright, fun papers.

Jean Manis kept her page simple by matting her photos on contrasting paper and writing on journal strips. A truly, embellishment free layout.

Supplies

Michele Holcomb‘s lovely layout showcases her favorite season.

Supplies

Amy Kingsford layered fun patterned papers to create her happy page.

Supplies

Julie Kelley showcased her beautiful photos on her layout using coordinating papers to help tell her story.

Supplies

I love patterned papers and took this opportunity to showcase a few fun ones on my layout.

As you can see, there’s a lot you can do without pre-made embellishments. You can do so much with just paper, pictures and words! You can cut your papers into any shape or you can cut any shape out of your papers. You can use fonts and alphabet stickers.

Scrapbooking with fewer (or no) embellishments can help you get great design and save money on your pages. Now it’s your turn!

To participate in the challenge, create a new layout that uses no embellishments. Upload your digital or paper layout to any public gallery and use the linky embedded in this post to enter the challenge.

One random challenge participant who enters by 9:59pm CST on Sunday, April 15 will be selected to win a $15 print credit from Persnickety Prints.

I created this layout from a Field Trip with my Robotics team. It’s digital, but uses only snippets of paper and a font.

As soon as I posted the Burden Dairy layout, I noticed the rules said “NEW” layout, and that one is from a couple of months ago, so I re-uploaded one I created this weekend (layout 6, Easter 2012). Gotta keep it legit!
