Product Guide: Fresh/Artsy Style

Scrapbooking Supplies

This week, Simple Scrapper is highlighting four design trends with the Digital Scrapbooking Product Guide.

The Trend

The Fresh/Artsy label takes many elements of traditional paper scrapbooking and throws in a touches of creativity and whimsy. I like to think of this style as the paper style squished and turned on its head with a surprise at the end! Let’s begin with a few more perfect examples of this take on scrapping.

Even since I first posted on the four styles, I’ve seen this particular trend evolve the most. I’m seeing more emphasis on journaling, Project 365 life capture and more deliberate details — and less extreme clusters this way and that. What do you think?

Shopping for Fresh/Artsy

If Fresh/Artsy is your favorite style, you might consider exploring these shops:

  • Cat Scrap
  • Designer Digitals
  • Digi Chick
  • Elemental Scraps
  • Funky Playground Designs
  • The Lilypad
  • Little Dreamer Designs
  • Scrap Artist
  • Scrap Orchard
  • Scrapbook Graphics
  • {we are} storytellers
  • Weeds & Wildflowers

From these stores, I picked out some of my favorite Fresh/Artsy products. Do these fit the style? Sometimes the lines are blurry between Fresh/Artsy and Traditional/Paper-Style; it all depends on how the scrapper uses the products in the end!

I also polled DST readers on their favorite designers for each style. Who would you add to this list of favorite Fresh/Artsy designers?

  • Joyce Paul at Funky Playground Designs
  • MK Designs and Kasia Designs at Shabby Pickle Designs
  • Kitty Designs at Oscraps
  • Lynn-Marie and Vinnie Pearce at Catscrap
  • Julia Makotinsky, CD Muckosky and Jackie Eckles at Little Dreamer Designs
  • Heavens Gate and Christine Honsinger at Scrap Artist
  • Dragonfly Designs and Dreamer’s Magic Designs at Brownie Scraps

So tell me – why does this style appeal to you or not? In your opinion, what are the essential defining characteristics of Fresh/Artsy?

I love this style b/c it mixes fun papers with doodly elements, my two favourite things in digiscrap:) I also think that this style is defined by bright colours – part of what makes it “fresh.”

You could also include Sugarplum Paperie in this category, although her designs would also fit nicely in the traditional/paper-style category as well.
